Turning one is a huge deal for first babies. They don't know it, but their future siblings will never have it as made as the first one. I only have one child and I already know this to be true. Turning one half is an even cuter huge deal for first babies. It must be documented with a trendy little photo session and a custom crown from Etsy.
The first child's half birthday is such a celebration because it means you "made it to six months," as a mama. I remember thinking "if I can just make it six months, it will be smooth sailing after that.." (We all know each stage of child rearing offers its own unique set of challenges...but the naive, sleep deprived mama might not know that.)
We think, by six months the baby will be beefier, sturdier, more self sufficient, and hey what new challenge could be harder than the night feedings in the beginning? 😏 (*insert crawling*) But the truth is, it really is a huge milestone. And New Mama, you better buckle up, because the next six months will be the fastest of your life--even in a 2020 world.
For this particular session, I had the privilege of photographing my dear friend Brooke's little lady, Monroe. We decided to do the session at the church we both grew up in, and Brooke's husband now serves. The weather wasn't kind, and sweet baby Monroe had about enough of my camera; but these are some of my fave pics ever.
I delivered the set of images with a little disappointment because we weren't able to get a true giddy smile. I told Brooke I was sorry and I hoped she liked them anyways and she sent me a message I had to share here:
I couldn't have said it better myself. We need the raw memories too. I can't tell you how many photos of my little girl appear that she is happy as a clam, but really I just caught her in that pained-wincing-whine-before-the-meltdown face that slightly resembles a smile. IYKYK. Thanks for the kind words and the time we got to spend dodging lightning in the church parking lot. 💖 I'm gonna go hide under a blanket now.
