How To Edit iPhone Pics For Instagram

People are always wondering how other people edit their pics for Instagram, and how they get iPhone pics to stand out. And I'm here to tell you, it's super easy, and you don't have to use presets!

Let me first preface by saying, this is my personal Instagram account. So the majority of these photos were shot with my iPhone 8 Plus, but if you look close, you can spot the three DSLR photos. 🧐

I'm going to focus on the first picture in the grid; a photo from my friend Lisa's backyard. (Check out her cute art boxes for kids!) The picture I snapped was a fun action shot of my toddler and Lisa's big kid, swinging on a huge tree swing.

Here's a before and after of the shot:

I'm gonna reiterate real quick, this pic won't be winning any awards for composition. But it was a fun iPhone shot and it had lots of editable potential! :) The app I use to edit phone pics is Lightroom.

So here's a quick rundown of my editing checklist:

  1. First thing's first, I always go straight for the "light" when I open up a photo to edit. I tend to slide the exposure to the right until I like what I see.

  2. Next is the "color" option. I'm a huge fan of the muted greens that are in right now, (even though they are totally a fad which will change soon,) so I click the little "mix" button so I can isolate each color. I like to desaturate the green a bunch.

  3. You can adjust the other colors to your liking also, but I don't always have to do a lot. PS- Where there is green, there is yellow, so I like to tone that down a notch too.

And there you have it:

I love that the image matches the overall vibe of my feed and the colors have a more light and airy vibe than the original shot!

Check out this spring session with a similar vibe, but taken with my DSLR, here!
