As a military family, we were beyond lucky to have lasted five years without a deployment. So when we got the call that Ryan would be deploying, I knew we had a good run. And even though it ended up being two months shorter than anticipated, our homecoming was much awaited and cherished! Before he left, we stumbled upon Emily Renee Photography and got some pics done last minute and absolutely loved them, so I knew I wanted her to take our homecoming pics when he got back.
It was one of the first frigid days of the season and I was actually thankful for the masks as I walked through the windy Colorado Springs Airport parking lot. We got to the airport about eight hours before his flight arrived...okay okay it was about 45 minutes but it felt an eternity. We found a little abandoned restaurant table area to hang out in while we waited and Emily snapped pics of Mia girl while she licked the furniture and I had multiple heart attacks. #2020
When I decided to hire a photographer, I felt a little uneasy about the whole thing because I felt like my husband wasn't gone long enough. And he wasn't in a combat situation. But I put those thoughts aside and realized our military journey isn't anyone else's. This time apart was a challenge and I am so glad we have photos to remember the finish line feeling. As an added incentive, Emily completely calmed my nerves and made me laugh while we waited and confused other bald men for my husband. 😂
Before we knew it, my guy in uniform walked up. Mia slowly tiptoed towards him and gave him the sweetest first hug. It was like "daddy where were you?" mixed with "daddy why is this so awkward, we've talked every single day on the phone!"
After a few moments of sweetness from those two, I finally snagged my hug. It was the best ever.
The rest is a blur. ❤️ We snagged Ryan's luggage, made our way outside and took a few more pictures in front of the most glorious fall tree. Thank you Emily for the sweetest photos ever. 🥰
